Advantages and Disadvantages of DHI Hair transplantation?

Methods Of Hair transplant

We have been faced with three methods since the beginning of hair transplantation applications. We can list those methods as follows:

1. FUT: Follicular Unit Transplantation

2. FUE: Follicular Unit Extraction

3. DHI: Direct Hair Implantation

What are the DHI method and its advantages?

Although DHi hair transplantation has been a method that has been applied for about 10 years, it has become a method that we started to hear more after 2016. DHi (Direct Hair Implantation) is the process of removing from the donor area (the area where the hair is taken) with special needles made for DHi and placing it in the area to be transplanted with the same needle within 1-2 minutes. When it comes to hair transplantation with DHi, it is the first FUE method that comes to mind, but there are a few remarkable differences between the 2 methods.

One of the most important differences in the DHi hair transplant method is that it allows the hair to be transplanted without shaving the whole hair. Since the hair follicles are transplanted within 1-2 minutes after they are taken from the donor area, the hair follicles can’t wait outside of the body. This minimizes the possibility of damage to the hair follicles.

In areas where the hair is not completely shed, it is possible to transplant between the hair more easily. More intense hair transplantation can be done, especially in hair transplantation in narrow areas. In FUT and FUE methods, unshaven hair transplantation is not shaving the area to be transplanted. In these methods, the area to be taken is shaved again. To expand this a little more, if a person has long hair (for example, ladies), the area between the two hairs is shaved on the back of the head and the roots are taken from this area.

Disadvantages of the DHI method?

The operation takes longer compared to conventional FUE. For example, a 4,000-graft FUE operation can be completed in an average of 6 hours, while a DHi hair transplant of this number can only be completed in 2 days by allocating 6 hours a day.

The method is very delicate and requires extreme attention. This increases the cost of the method. Since the opening of the channels is different from the classical FUE, it must be applied by a hair transplant center specialist with sufficient experience.

In the DHi method, after each root is taken, it is planted without waiting. Therefore, placing these roots in the area to be transplanted at an equal angle and direction with the roots previously planted is a situation that requires experience.
